Clinical Opportunities

Clinical practice is integrated with classroom curriculum throughout our three-year program. This unique format encourages you to quickly build a strong foundation and stay abreast of continuing developments in the PT field. We include 39 weeks of clinical education experiences within the didactic coursework, enabling you to gradually develop clinical skills and experience in a variety of PT settings.

The Physical Therapy Program has a robust network of clinical partnerships that provide our students with opportunities to develop their hands-on and clinical reasoning skills under the mentorship and guidance of licensed physical therapists. These clinical partnerships include hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, school districts and private clinics. Clinical education experiences span practice areas, such as acute care, outpatient orthopedics, neurological rehabilitation, geriatrics and pediatrics. Numerous specialties and subspecialties exist within these broad areas; and when available, we strive to provide our students with opportunities to learn from skilled practitioners in these specialty practice areas.

Although our clinical partnerships are primarily concentrated within the Pacific Northwest, our network provides our students the opportunity to travel domestically and internationally for clinical experiences. New clinical sites are frequently added to provide a variety and quality to your clinical experiences.

We value the diversity of the community by teaching cultural awareness and competency, fostering advocacy, community service and the sharing of professional knowledge and skills.

¡SALUD! The ¡Salud! program provides access to healthcare for vineyard workers and their families. A collaboration between Oregon winery owners and Tuality Healthcare physicians supplies seasonal vineyard workers with on-site health screenings. As physical therapists the group performs assessments, provides treatment in the form of manual therapy techniques, conducts ergonomic education sessions regarding body mechanics and lifting mechanics and offers referrals to other providers if necessary. Recently, a group of PT students performed musculoskeletal screening examinations while conducting research for a study on self-reported musculoskeletal pain in Latino vineyard workers. In addition to enhancing their clinical skills, students can practice speaking Spanish.
